Uh, uh, uh – so excited about my new book

I have one book that I have really been wanting to read for a long time. My friend Sisse (The Literary Princess) has it as one of her 10 favorite books and so many others have talked or written or chatted about this book – and it just sounds so so good. So finally I saw it in a bookstore the other day – and immediately picked it up.

The book is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It sounds like a story about love and a sinister Circus – and it sounds like something I will really enjoy. I’m so looking forward to reading this

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

  1. Were you doing hip thrusts with the “uh uh uh”? Hahaha!

Eric and I just finished reading this, and we both loved it. The imagery is phenomenal.

    • I was doing some version of a happy dance – maybe including hip thrusts. Luckily, no one saw me do it 😉
I’m so looking forward to this – hopefully I’ll get to it soon!

  2. I just came across an award that meets my ideal for great literature called the Alex Award, and the Night Circus is one on the list:

I’ve read a few on the list, including The Graveyard Book and Never Let Me Go (loved them), and I’ve decided it’s one of my favorite awards.

I’m looking forward to reading others on the list, including this one.

    • I’ve read the two you mention as well as some others (Room, Soulless, The Magicians…) and I really like the idea of that award. I think I will go through the list and see if I need to add some more books to my wish list.

    • I’m not sure if I have read any circus stories … The closest I’ve come is John Irving’s ‘Son of the Circus’ I think and that’s a Irving novel so of course, I liked it. I really have high hopes for this one – just hoping there’s not any clowns in it. Stephen King has ruined clowns for me!
